VAUDE receives good test results

January 28, 2016 – At the ISPO sporting goods trade show in Munich, the environmental organization Greenpeace released a new report on the issue of PFCs. A total of 40 products from outdoor industry manufacturers were tested for residues of per- and polyfluorinated chemicals (PFCs). Two VAUDE products were included in the test.

Greenpeace tests outdoor products for PFC residues

No residues were found in our trekking jacket Fjordan Jacket. The jacket bears the VAUDE Green Shape label, our guarantee for environmentally friendly products made from sustainable materials, resource-efficient and fair production. The result shows that our Green Shape criteria meet the highest environmental standards.

The technical stretch hardshell jacket provides optimal freedom of motion for mountain tours and trekking tours and combines functionality and ecology. The textile materials are produced from sustainable resources and eco-friendly manufacturing in accordance with the stringent bluesign® standard

The second VAUDE product in the test was our alpine backpack Bulin 30, This backpack, which was last produced in July 2014, featured a water-repellent PFC-containing impregnation and therefore did NOT bear the VAUDE Green Shape label. PFCs were detected in a small degree here.

The uncompromising alpine Bulin 30 backpack comes with a welded, waterproof floor and taped top lid and is manufactured in Germany only in limited numbers. The pack's concept can be summed up as: high performance minimalism. The floor is absolutely waterproof, while the top lid is highly water resistant and can be completely detached if necessary.

We are working hard to completely eliminate PFCs from our products as soon as possible and have set a voluntarily goal of becoming fully PFC-free by 2020.

We expressly support the regulations demanded by Greenpeace for industry wide legal limits. PFCs are used in the manufacture of many products of our everyday lives; the entire outdoor industry is only responsible for a fraction of the PFC’s released in the world.
